Christchurch

Thursday, October 13th, 2005

I had the most awesome trip in chirstchurch..and to think in the beginning I was dreading to go there. I remembered once upon a time telling my ex that New Zealand was never gonna be on my list of places I want to visit. When he told me he wanted to bring me there for holiday and my remarked was ‘New Zealand?? What is there to do there besides looking at grass and sheeps’. Hahaha… I SO take that back now….

Chirstchurch is such a beautiful place that I don’t mind sitting on top of a hill and just stare at grass and sheeps with the cooling breeze in my face. To top it up I had a great set of company with me. My time there was mostly spent with the set of tech crew that flew in with us. Upon reaching there the first day I went out for dinner with the Captain (Craig) and the 2 First Officers ( Fardel and Amar ) as my other colleagues were either still sleeping or too lazy to go out for dinner. Cpt Craig took us to this joint called ‘Coyote’ where we had Italian food. Me and the captain ordered the pueblo chicken salad, while Fardel and Amar took the tomato cream pasta. My salad was scrumptious. We took a walk around Christchurch after our meal, just enjoying the tranquility and cool air before retiring for the night.

The next morning I got a call from Fardel and he suggested to rent a car so that we take a drive somewhere after lunch. However as the weather forecast indicated showers in the afternoon we scrap the plan and just went for lunch instead. So Fardel, Amar, Kar Lyn and Jessica and I heading to the walking street for lunch at some food court we stumble upon. After lunch we headed to the visitors’ site office we were consolidated on all the ‘to-do’ activities available for visitors in chirstchurch. We decided to go for the tram and Gondola package with costs NZ$25. But before that we went to the Aquarium that was located within the visitors’ site office premises. The ticket per adult was NZ$12 but after my efforts of pestering the ticket officer to give us a discount he charged only NZ$10 for the girls. The aquarium was mostly a showcase on local marine lifeforms but we did manage to see the infamous kiwi birds. We couldn’t take any pictures of it though because the kiwis are only active at night and are sensitive to light.

After the aquarium, we proceeded to our tram ride around Christchurch. Jessica did not joined us then and headed back to the hotel. The tram ride lasted for only 15minutes and after that we catched a bus to Gondola. It a 30minutes ride there and the fare costs about NZ$2 per trip. When we reach Gondola we took a cable car up to the hills….and the view on top there was magnificent….it was the highlight of the trip but yet I can put it into words of how spectacular the sight and the feeling I was experiencing there. So just refer to the pictures. We could even see Quail Island from up there.

We spent a good hour plus there just taking in the fresh air and soaking in mother nature’s wonderful creation of the gondola hills. We waited till the sunset before we made our move back to Christchurch.

We were all so tired by the time we reached the hotel and it was dinner time by then. So me and kar lyn called up the rest of the crew to join us for dinner at the thai joint nearby the hotel. Only Fang and another 2 F.O joined us there. Joseph, David and Gerard were already at the thai restaurant when we reach there. The food was relatively ok there, but for me it was the company that mattered more. Anyway after dinner we proceeded to the coffee house at the hotel lobby for some drinks and dessert of course. A meal is never complete without dessert. We saw a lot of the other patrons there digging into this humongous bowl of ice cream. It’s called ‘nightmare ice cream’. We took the liberty of trying it for ourselves and man was it good. We licked the bowl clean n pray that we won’t get nightmares later.

After that all of us retired for the day as it was time to head back home the next morning. Well and that wraps up the entire exciting day. It has been one hell of an experience, one that I will always treasure and look back upon.

A ‘love over friends’ kinda guy

Now is that a quality that ever girl wishes their lovers or husbands have???

I met this gorgeous guy recently on one of my latest flight and we became friends. I shall not mention his name here as he has requested to remain anonymous among my circle of friends due to the fact that we discovered we were actually ‘related’ through a lot of common friends. So I nicknamed him kakoei. I met him again yesterday after he came back from his flight. We went to liquid room and later to Attica2. As he sent me home we had a chance to talk and get to know each other better that lead to the shocking discovery that we have so many common friends. Hence we gossiped and gossiped till the break of dawn. The more I talk to him the more I am intrigue with him.

In the beginning, he came about as being very reserved to me, but after getting to know him better yesterday, I found that his reserved-ness was due to the fact that he’s very much in love with his current girl friend hence in respect to her faith in him he chose to shun away from society and his buddies and devote all his attention to her. Well all this sounds like a happy-ending to a fairytale story….but I think being such in this era is just too impractical and could backfire easily for both side. As he himself quoted ‘there’s a fine line between possessiveness and protectiveness’ and people then to cross that line more often than not. So balancing between the two is crucial in any given relationship…

Well there goes another nice straight gorgeous guy…Darn it… but I am happy for his girlfriend. She very sweet and deserves him. (She’s actually my friends ex-gf). They’ve been dating for a year plus now and I can see that they are still very much into each other. You should have seen him talk about her…he’s eyes all sparkly when he told me ‘The first time I saw her, I thought she was so pretty, she looked like an angel’. I mean yea…it sounded so unoriginal but you really should have seen the expression and feelings that was oozing out of him when he said that…and I mean even after dating for a year plus.. Now tell me how many guys would still feel the same about their lovers like they did in the beginning after dating for a year plus….I practically melted when he told me that.

Oh well….at least now I know fairytales and happy ending can exists even in such cynical times where people are so afraid of losing out that they don’t throw themselves completely in a relationship. And it is this factor of holding back that one cannot really fully experience the wonderful feeling of being truly in love… and I admit I myself am guilty of that.

Thump thump thumping

Saturday, October 1st, 2005

I was suppose to go ‘cheong’ with my buddy Jothi last night at thumper but she ffk me as she got called up for a flight. So luckily Eric called me last minute to tell me he will be heading there with Jeremy. Hallehluyah… I am spared of boredomness on a Friday night.

So I heading down to thumper which was at good wood park hotel. It was my first time there hence I was kind of lost by the time I got there around 12.30 am. Eric and Jeremy was already in da club.

Thumper generally is pretty small and filled with wannabe yuppies… I saw a lot of Caucasians there and a lot of model-like girls. The place was packed and stuffy.. air ventilation was bad… but however the music was awesome. I think my darling gwen and jothi will like the music there. I can’t wait to go there with them.

Another crew friend of mine was to meet me at thumper later as he just came back from flight. I’ll refer to this crew friend of mine as ‘kakoei’ since he wants to remain anonymous and he does look like a drop dead gorgeous Japanese hunk. (yes gwen…this is MY kakoei) He finally came around 1.30am but he did not fancy the music there and so he proceeded to liquid room where he had some friends there. I continued to join Eric and Jeremy at thumper. After receiving numerous smses from kakoei in liquid coaxing me to join him there, I finally left eric and Jeremy at thumper and met up with kakoei in liquid room after 3am. Just as I was getting into the music at liquid..the DJ announced that they were closing already..WTF. Sigh…so we hopped on to another club in Clarke quay, Attica2. The place was alright…very packed though coz it was one of the few clubs in Singapore that is still open after 3am. But by the time I reach Attica2 my feet was like killing me and I was already slipping into dreamland.

Kakoei saw me drifting off and was nice enough to ditch his friends at Attica and send me home. Kakoei and I chatted at my place till the break of dawn…gossiping away about crews and acquaintances we know, giving me self protecting tips and exclusive insights to the crew culture and way of life as a crew. Overall a very interesting night… all that was missing was my darling housemates……
