When it comes to

New York

….seeing the Twins is a must itenary.

Initially I was suppose to meet them for dinner yesterday, after touchdown…but i was too tired as usual.

Kevin couldn’t join for dinner today bcoz of a very important date… so Kenneth and I had our own candlelight dinner instead…sort of…

Kenneth brought me to this lovely place for dinner, called WHYM on

58th Street

,

9th Ave.

Its a small dimmed cozy joint, modernly decorated with a red and black theme. Serves asian infused western food.

We were fortunate enought to get a table for two without reservations when we got there. Our waiter, Matthew… was absolutely charming and helpful…not to mention cute too.

The Menu was rather interesting….

you can check their dinner menu at their official site http://whymnyc.com/

Here’s what we’ve order:

Drinks > A Guava Martini for mua and a Cocunut Mojito for Kenneth.

The mojito was good, my martini was a lil too strog for my liking…as far as martinis r concerns..i’m still sticking to lychees.

Appetizer 1 > Matthew recommended the Crimini Mushroom soup with caramalised onions and almond flakes. It was great… a very aromatic rich thick soup with chucky bits of mushrooms…though I think traditional croutons with have done a better job at added some crunch to the soup instead of almond flakes.

Appetizer 2 > Togarashi Shrimp : Battered fried shrimp on a bed on mashed banana with coconut milk, drizzled with sweet ginger plum sauce. The shrimp was fresh..but the batter they used to fried it was a lil too hard.. the coconut banana puree was just nice but the sauce was too strong.

Entree 1 > Plum Glazed Short Ribs with tamarind sesame noodles and thai basil slaw. The meat was very well marinated and tender, it was perfectly glazed but it didn’t go well with the bland noodles and dry slaw.

Entree 2 > Blackened Mahi-Mahi (its fish btw..) with a pomegrante glazed on spiced hummus and topped with huge curried onion rings. The fish tasted like our very own ‘ikan bakar’, i couldn’t taste any pomegrante glazed though… the hummus was a tad too salty and the onion rings weren’t crispy enough….but overall i’m fine with having ‘ikan bakar’ and onion rings are always yummy.

Side Dishes > Sexy Mushroom: 3 mushrooms, shiitake, oyster mushroom and black trumpet on melted mascarpone with herbs. A lovely pungent(from the cheese) dish… though the black trumpet should have been soaked or cooked a lil longer for it to turn softer.

The table next to us ordered the Wasabi Pea Crusted Tuna which looks fantastic… it was slighty cooked on the outside and the tuna flesh was still ruby red inside… now tht’s the way to have tuna…. slightly seared. Most of the time tuna main courses are always overcooked…and cooked tuna just tasted fricking horrible.

So after dinner, we went over to a drinking joint called Bamboo 52, on

52th St

, btw 7th and 8th. Kevin joined us there after sending his date home first… we have some beers there ..chit chat for awhile… had a sore throat by the end of it as ppl basically talk very loud there…

After the drinks Kevin insisted that I go to Times Squares to see the well lighted buildings there. And he was right…

Times Square

at night is ten times better than in the day . We took some shots there an then later headed back to my hotel.

I just bid kevin n kenneth not too long ago…and I already miss them…. we had a great time catchin up…. looking forward to seeing them again soon.
