Cape of GREAT Hope

Sunday, October 28th, 2007

The next time anyone ask me which is my favorite place that I’ve visited …it’ll be Cape Town.

It so lovely there, the scenery is fantastic. I was so mesmerize by the beautiful mountains and the gorgeous beaches there.

The hotel that we were putting up at was great as well. Huge room with a pantry area equiped with a microwave oven and the best part, free internet. Cool!!

The minute we reach the hotel, we were greeted by this chirpy friendly lady. She’s Soraya, our tour guide lady. Always waiting at the hotel lobby when crew check in, to arrange tours for new crews.

Anyway I was so excited and I wanted to do so many things and see so many places. But due to the short layover, I had to K.I.V alot of the other activities and places for next time.

There we a total of 7 of us that went for the tour. We started out at 9am and our first destination was to Camps Bay. It’s a stretch of pubs and bars located opposite a beautiful beach. We hung out at the beach for a while and took a lot of photos.

After that we headed to Seal Island… to see seals of course. We had a short boat ride to a nearby shore where hundreds of seals gathered. The boat ride was fun…got a lil wet here and there. I saw a lot of elderly couple on the boat and I thought it was so romantic of them to go on holiday with each other and have such a great time. The couples were holding on to each other trying to balance themselves and take pictures at the same time. So adorable… sigh, it is at these kind of moments that you wish you have tht someone special with you. I so wished i had my someone with me then. (Note to self: Honeymoon destination = CapeTown)

Our next trip was to Cape Point. But on the way there we manage to spot some whales a long the coast. Soraya said we were very lucky to actually see so many whales along the route. Getting the opportunity to see this gigantic creature flip its tail and fins and popped its head out of the sea, yea…i would say we were very lucky indeed to witness this magnificent event.

It was a pretty long drive to Cape Point but it was worth it…. my whole point of going to Cape Point is to take a friendster worthy picture of the signage Cape of Good Hope. It was super windy then, so taking a good photo was not an easy feat but after a few many shots, I manage to get one or two good shots.

After the photo taking sessions, we drove further up of Cape Point towards the lighthouse to get a better view of the Beacon of Hope, which is where the 2 oceans meet, the Atlantic and the Indian Ocean. I could actually see the 2 currents crashing into each other, forming a long line of white waves right in to middle of the ocean…awesome eh..

Next we headed to Table Mountain. The weather that day was perfect. A lil windy but at least it’s fog free. We had to take a rotating cable car up to the mountain’s plateau. From the cable station we could see the top of Lion’s Head (another peak that’s a part of the mountian range) and as we venture around the plateau area that leads to the eastern side of the mountain, we could also see the Devils Peak and the 12 Apostles. The view from table mountain is spectacular, but unfortunately we did not have much time to spent up there as the place closes at 7pm and we given a very unpleasant warning to head back to the cable station with siren sounds similar to the ones you hear for bombing evacuation during world war 2.

By the time we got back to the hotel it was about 7.30pm and we were all so tired and hungry but very happy indeed.

I’m already looking forward to my next trip here. I’ll go for the great white shark cage diving, whale watching, helicopter ride and robben island. I can’t wait!!!

Kura No Naka

Sunday, October 28th, 2007

Jeremy brought me and gwen to clarke quay for dinner after picking us up from bugis on sat, halloweens night.

The place is called Kura No Nake, which means ‘treasure in a quay’. Its located at Allson Hotel, Clarke Quay.

The place is run by this 3 japanese sister, which happen to be hot kawaii babes (tht’s according to Jeremy). But anyway the place looks good and is patronised by a lot of Japanese customers. (I think we were the only local chinese in the entire restaurant when we were there).

We were all up for Sashimi and our waitress, which in my opinion came across as very pushy, recommended us the 8 sashimi combo selection.

The 8 selections includes

Maguro - Tuna
Chu Toro - Tuna Belly
Aji Tataki - Horse Mackeral
Tai Sashi - Sea Bream
Uni - Sea Urchin
Amaebi - Sweet Prawn
Katsuo Tataki - Bonito
Hamachi - Yellowtail

We also ordered some side dishes:

— > marinated beef tenderloins cubes on hot plate
—> sizzling tofu with melted cheese
—> teriyaki cod fish
—> shabu shabu

The sashimi wasn’t that fantastic though… the sashimi I had with Wen at Robertson Quay was better. But at least I finally tried the Uni, and I especially love the Aji and Katsuo, especially taken with some Sake….lovely.

I normally do not fancy sake but the Sake that Jeremy order was very nice indeed. Very sweet and not too strong. Its called ‘Pa Hai San’. Gwen helped me translated it in English, which means ‘eight sea mountain’. I so so love that sake and i swear i’ll go hunt for it on my next Japan flight.

So overall, Jeremy’s fav dish was the shabu shabu, Gwen’s fav dish was the yellowtail sashimi and amaebi and mine was the SAKE…. yes yes..i’m such an alcoholic.
